This is a call reminder for researchers who are interested in applying to the NFRF Global Platform stream
The deadline for this call is September 1, 2020 with the NFRF Registration Form due by September 15

Dear Researchers,

 

Canadian researchers are eligible to receive funding under the New Frontiers Research Fund 2020 Horizon Global Platform program (the international stream of the NFRF) for specific funded Horizon2020 calls.  You are receiving this email given your research interests and background in biofuels, bioenergy and sustainable/clean energy, which corresponds with an eligible Horizon2020 call that you could potentially apply to with your European partners (see below).

 

  1. If you are interested in applying to this call, it is recommended that you get in contact with your European partners as soon as possible to see if they have already started work on a draft application or are planning to apply.  If so, indicate that you are eligible to join as a partner and you would bring your own funding to the project under NFRF, should it be awarded (up to $125,000/year for 4 years)
  2. If you do not have contacts in the EU, you can review the “Partner Search” section on the Horizon2020 call site and connect with potential partners looking for collaborators.
  3. Once you are added to an application, you must create a profile and submit a Registration Form in the NFRF Convergence Portal within two weeks after the Horizon2020 call deadline *NOTE – Internet Explorer does not support the Convergence Portal platform.  You must use an alternative browser*. Should the application be selected for funding, the Canadian researcher must submit a full application through the Convergence Portal within a month of the notice of award date.  More details on the application process are available here.

Description

This call invites proposals that aim to develop international cooperation with Canada for fostering the deployment of advanced biofuels and bioenergy while substantially decreasing the costs of the feedstock supply or the conversion process. Projects should address at least one of the following issues:

·       Development of the full supply chain of biomass-to-bioenergy applications including intermediate bioenergy carriers, advanced biofuels, heat and power generation. Sustainable biomass production and collection strategies that facilitate sustainable bioenergy production and decrease feedstock supply costs will be included. All types of non-food/feed biomass including forestry, agricultural and their residues, organic fractions of municipal and industrial wastes can be targeted.

·       Thermochemical, biochemical and chemical processing of sustainable biomass to advanced biofuels focusing on the pre-treatment and the conversion process and in particular on reducing the respective marginal cost.

Eligibility

Canadian applicants are eligible to receive funding under the NFRF 2020 Horizon Global Platform program.

Award

Up to $125,000 CAD per year for up to four years (for a total of up to $500,000 CAD).

Application

·       Applications are submitted by the Horizon2020 Lead Coordinator through the Funding and Tenders Portal by the sponsor deadline

o   Canadian participants must submit their registration form through the Convergence Portal (DO NOT USE INTERNET EXPLORER) within two weeks after the Horizon 2020 deadline for their call. Further details can be found on the NFRF website.

·       Please submit a completed OR Cover Sheet signed by the PI, relevant Chair/Director, and Faculty Dean or ADR with the application to Ibi Brown and Regan Child
