Joe is a senior sustainability expert with over twenty years of international experience in the private sector. He has a strong interest in developing business sustainability through economic, environmental and social development. Joe is currently a PhD Candidate in Sustainability Management with a focus on climate change and global security at the University of Waterloo.

Before returning to school to pursue his PhD, Joe was the Head of Sustainability, Corporate Responsibility and Government & Industry Relations for Ericsson in region Middle East and East Africa. In that role, Joe led and managed different functions in 23 countries in order to develop and operate different program objectives, and shape regulatory environment according to business strategies and targets at a global and regional level. Joe has been involved in several projects where he was responsible for project management, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning to drive an agenda that leverages telecommunication technologies for commercial growth, socio-economic development, and low-carbon economy.

Joe holds a Master of Environment and Business from the University of Waterloo, a Bachelor in Applied Sciences from l’Université du Québec À Montréal, and is fluent in English, French, Arabic and Italian.

In 2021 Joe has been nominated in the University of Bath #ThinkListNext21, which is a list of influential doctoral researchers on social media that talk about issues of responsible business. Joe is currently a visiting scholar at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.
