On behalf of the Council for Clean and Reliable Energy and the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE), we invite you to join us for the annual Technology Innovation and Policy Forum 2016. This inaugural event is intended to bring together policy makers, technology innovators, leading researchers and entrepreneurs, to address the convergence of policy development with technology advances. The goal of the forum is to understand the timing and impact on emerging disruptive technologies on the current policy regime, and to understand the impacts of microgrids embedded on a large scale within the existing networks.
The Innovation Showcase will bring together the most current corporate and institutional state-of-the-art technologies. There will be plenty of opportunity for you to network, ask questions, and interact with our expert panelists.

Is the state of technology mature enough for a massive exodus of customers and is there a real threat of stranded assets? If not, when? Declining cost structure of distributed energy resources (solar, EVs and storage, microgrids, cogeneration) pose a challenge to the utility distribution network. Will prosumers proliferate?

The traditional 'cost recovery' model for the electricity sector was designed and built for a one-way flow of energy technology. Technology is changing the texture of the system. Will distributed energy resources, high penetration of variable generation and ICT-enabled consumers undermine the existing business model of the distribution utilities?
