Abstract
The electricity sector is expected to undergo an unprecedented amount of change which has implications for utility shareholders, private markets, and end customers. This change is driven through technological improvements, cost reductions in alternative sources, and changing consumer preferences. The perspective from a Local Distribution Company looks at the opportunities this presents for shifting the conventional poles/wires business to a service organization that empowers customers to part-take in the sector and become involved in making sustainable decisions. The uncertainties that come with change are discussed to provide the audience an appreciation of the technical and regulatory challenges that impact decision making.
