ABSTRACT
Several coincident yet significant energy transformations are revolutionizing the way electri city is generated\, transmitted and distributed in Ontario. Climate change \, technological innovation\, shift in electricity demand and expanding cu stomer expectations are leading to an evident disruption in what was once a centralized monopoly utility business. Local distribution companies (LDC s) must navigate these changes to continue to deliver safe and reliable el ectricity to their customers.
Newmarket – Tay Power Distribution is at the forefront in exploring potential solutions being driven by these ch anges. Today’s lecture will present some of the innovative projects happen ing in Newmarket that\, upon implementation\, will provide direction for t he future of Ontario’s electricity sector. These projects cover the areas of: Energy Conservation (reducing energy consumption through energy effici ency projects)\, Demand Management (Class A Global Adjustment Industrial I nitiative)\, Large Scale Distribution Connected Battery Storage Pilot and Bus Transit Electrification (low-carbon fuel source).
