Getting Started

Getting Started with Drive4Data

There are a few steps to take before you can register for Drive4Data. Here's an overview of the registration process so you know what's coming your way.

1. Check Vehicle Availability

Currently the Drive4Data program is only open to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) road licensed PEVs (i.e., pure electric vehicles or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) in the Waterloo Region. The following vehicles are eligible to join the program:

  • Chevrolet Spark EV
  • Chevrolet Volt
  • Ford CMAX Energi
  • Ford Focus Electric
  • Ford Fusion Energi PHEV
  • Ford Transit Connect EV
  • Mitsubishi i-MiEV
  • Nissan Leaf
  • Toyota Prius Plug-In
  • Toyota RAV4 EV
  • Honda Accord PHEV
  • Smart Fortwo Electric Drive

2. Read the Drive4Data Agreement

Because Drive4Data will be gathering your car's driving data, we want to make sure you're comfortable with where that data will be going and how it will be used. We'll ask you to acknowledge that you have read and consent to the terms and conditions within when you fill out your registration form.

3. Fill out the Registration Form

You can fill out the Drive4Data registration form either online or via .pdf download. (If you register with the .pdf form, email it to info@wise.uwaterloo.ca.)

4. Get your Vehicle Datalogger Installed

After you register, someone from Drive4Data will contact you to arrange a time and location for your datalogger installation. Possible locations are:

  1. A participating dealership (see here for a complete list)
  2. The CrossChasm offices

The installation is free and will take approximately 15 minutes. Once the install is completed, you will be emailed with your log-in details so that you may access your driving data online whenever you like.

5. That's it! Now just keep driving.
