Canadian energy leaders have shared their insights on Canada’s energy history, current issues and their insights on what lies ahead in this eBook publication Energy in Canada @ 150 and Beyond.
Their articles cover a wide range of topics including: indigenous engagement, energy policy, public acceptability, digitization, and innovation in both supply and end-use. Many of the articles explore Canada’s unique and particular challenge: How to transition to a low-carbon energy economy that continues to blend supply from Canada’s rich endowment of fossil fuels with renewable, biomass, and nuclear resources.
In addition to sharing their insights, the authors have offered thoughtful recommendations for taking action on the issues they have identified.
A fireworks display of highlights emerge from these seventeen timely articles. They demonstrate a strong, positive and inclusive vision for how the energy sector can and will continue powering Canada for the foreseeable future. Many innovative suggestions for better policy and decision-making can found in the pages that follow. All of which, are aimed squarely at meeting the clear desire Canadians share to have a greater say in their energy future.
Canada has a rich, abundant and diverse natural resource base. We must work on each and every facet of this natural strength. What’s more, we must make each facet work together, better than ever to ensure Canada’s sustainable prosperity. To do this, we must incorporate greater traditional knowledge into our energy thinking while meaningfully including and partnering with indigenous Canadians like never before. The same level of focus and attention we have put on technological innovation in the past must be maintained and grown. At the same time, we must put the same type of thought and effort into the greater social acceptability of the projects we design and plan.
This report clearly demonstrates that Canadians must seize opportunities from the never-ending transformation of energy markets and systems. Change has been one of the few constants throughout Canada’s energy history. Canada is no stranger to adaptation and innovation. The pace of disruption and change is only likely to increase, and Canada must not only embrace this, we must lead it.
