The Council of Canadian Academies has established a Panel of Experts to conduct an evidence-based assessment of the potential for new and innovative uses of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for Greening Canada.
Professor Jatin Nathwani has been appointed a member of the Panel and he attended the inaugural meeting in Ottawa on September 20th to 21st.
The Expert Panel was constituted upon a formal request by the Minister of the Environment to the Council of Canadian Academies. The Panel will be chaired by David Miller, Counsel, International Business and Sustainability, Aird & Berlis LLP. The multi-disciplinary panel of 14 experts will assess the existing and relevant evidence in this area.
The Federal Government has recognised there is a significant untapped and undefined potential for energy savings through ICT-enabled efficiency measures and technology improvements. This assessment, once complete, will provide an in-depth and balanced report on the potential for new and innovative uses of ICTs to contribute to a greener Canada.
