They can be utilized to capture electricity at cheaper, off-peak times of the day, and use it later to offset costs during peak periods. The research team of University of Waterloo is working on the refurbished electric vehicle (EV) batteries to use it is a power source.
Dr. Steven B. Young (Faculty of Environment), Roydon Fraser (Department of mechanical and mechatronics engineering), Michael Fowler (Department of chemical engineering), Sean Walker (post-doc in chemical engineering), Leila Ahmadi (graduate student in mechanical and mechatronics engineering), and Arthur Yip (Waterloo undergrad) have collaborated with Mitsui and Co. (Canada) Ltd. and Nuvation Engineering (Industry partners) to explore issues related to government policies, generating electricity, and many more.
