CAMBRIDGE - Imagine opening your monthly electricity and heating bills with a smile on your face because your house produces more energy than it takes to keep it running.
Better still, this "net-zero" house didn't cost more than other houses all around you.
That may be a dream today, but Reid's Heritage Homes of Cambridge hopes to make it a reality. It is one of the five builders across Canada chosen for a project that will involve building 25 net-zero houses. Reid's Heritage will build five…

Waterloo researcher helps design app after her study reveals salespeople don’t know much about the energy efficient appliances they’re selling.
Many salespeople can't find energy efficient televisions and they don't have information when buyers probe for eco-options, a University of Waterloo study has found.
Their knowledge about energy efficient washing machines is better - 60 per cent of salespeople can find green information about washers. But that still leaves a lot of transactions where buyers want to do good but don't have the support they need to make a green decision.
"My hope is to make it easy for consumers to buy green,"…
Waterloo researcher says climate has been on a cooling trend since 2002, matching a decline in CFCs in our atmosphere.
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are to blame for global warming since the1970s and not carbon dioxide, according to a Waterloo study just published in the International Journal of Modern Physics B.
CFCs are already known to deplete ozone, but in-depth statistical analysis now shows that CFCs are also the key driver in global climate change, rather than carbon dioxide (CO2)…
