Grid capacity, reliability and efficient distribution of power have been among major challenges for traditional Ontario power grids in the past few years. Reliable distribution within these power grids will continue to depend on development of lighter and more efficient sensing units with much smaller maintenance costs in order to detect grid failures. The objective of Prof.…
Last week's downing of the Malaysian Airlines aircraft in eastern Ukraine and the potential imposition by the European Union of more stringent economic sanctions against Russia could open a door in Europe for western Canadian crude oil, says an Ontario political scientist.

Waterloo Engineering: Susan Tighe’s pavement designs create more efficient and sustainable infrastructure
From UW Engineering, a new video for their research series featuring Susan Tighe's research focused on sustainable pavement, and designing infrastructure with a long, efficient life, reducing the need for later maintenance. Waterloo Engineering's laboratory facilities allow Susan and her research group to test their pavement designs under extreme conditions, something that they couldn't do anywhere else in Canada.
A division of the university's Department of Civil and Environmental…
