CLOSED: Call for Applications: WISE-CISCO Systems Smart Grid Research Fund (UW Faculty)
The Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE) helps organizations develop innovative solutions along the full spectrum of sustainable energy systems research, consistent with current and evolving national and international policy developments.
BACKGROUND
As part of the WISE-Cisco System Smart Grid Research Fund, $40,000/year has been allocated for seeding new work from faculty members (preference will be given to assistant professors and new faculty) in areas of relevance to the Fund for the five-year period 2013-2018. We invite proposals, normally renewable, for a maximum of $20,000 per year, for the third round of funding. Proposals are due by 4:30 pm on June 15, 2016.
The thematic research areas are:
- Integration of distributive energy systems
- Stochastic analysis and large scale simulation
- Data mining and machine learning
- Exploration of how the design, deployment and operational management of a smart-grid can be enhanced through utilization of information science and technology concepts
- Incentive compatible distributed generation control and protection
- Modeling and control of grid energy storage
- Efficient and secure communication network for the grid
- Consumer behavior aspects in networks, economics and game theory
- New enabling technologies for smart grids
University of Waterloo faculty interested in applying for Cisco Smart Grid Energy Research Program funding should complete the WISE-Cisco Systems Smart Grid Research Fund Application and send it to iwstrick@uwaterloo.ca with Subject: “Cisco Research Project - YOUR FULL NAME”. You will receive a confirmation email stating receipt of the application.
Proposals will be evaluated by a committee composed of Prof. Jatin Nathwani (Executive Director, WISE), Prof. S. Keshav (Cisco Systems Research Chair in Smart Grid), and Prof. Catherine Rosenberg (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering). Results will be announced by July 15 for a project start date of September, 1, 2016.
