Masters student opportunities - Renewable energy mappingand analysis
The University of Waterloo and the School of Planning are seeking two incoming Canadian Masters students for Fall 2013 to work on a multi-year project in collaboration with an international NGO to assess and map renewable energy resource potential across Canada. This project includes research focused on: the integration of disparate spatial data sets relating to multiple renewable energy resources (e.g. wind, solar, hydro, biomass), web map application development, and assessing the technical and realisable potential for different forms of renewable energy resources. The overall goal of the project is to inform the energy policy debate in Canada on the full range of renewable resources available.
Candidates require strong skills in spatial data handling and GIS (ArcGIS, proprietary or open-source web-mapping software) and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with quantitative methods (i.e. statistical analysis) would be of benefit. Successful applicants will undertake their studies in the School of Planning, University of Waterloo and work with Drs. Geoff Lewis and Rob Feick and will be funded through a combination of research funds from this project and teaching assistantships.
Interested individuals should submit a curriculum vitae / resume, unofficial transcripts, and a brief statement of interest to Drs. Geoff Lewis (g4lewis@uwaterloo.ca) and Rob Feick (rdfeick@uwaterloo.ca).
