Carol Hochu is honoured to serve as the President and CEO of Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA), a position she has held since January 1, 2012. Since 1943, CPIA has served as the national voice and leader for plastics industry sustainability across Canada and beyond, representing the interests of the plastics value chain including resin and raw material suppliers, processors/converters, equipment suppliers, recyclers and brand owners.

Director of Admissions & Professor, Engineering, University of Waterloo
As Director of Admissions for the Faculty of Engineering, Bill is involved with all aspects of admission to The University of Waterloo’s first-year programs in engineering. Bill works closely with several individuals in the Faculty and in the Registrar's Office to formulate and implement the policies on admissions and entrance scholarships. In addition to this administrative appointment, Bill is also a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, where Bill teach courses in the areas of chemical process and plant design, and air pollution control. Bill's research interest lie in the area of photochemical (UV) and biological air and water pollution control, and biochemical engineering of fermentation and pharmaceutical processes.

Director, Environment, Fleet & Solid Waste, City of London
Jay joined the City of London in 1995 and has held number of senior management positions. In 2012, he became the Director of Environment, Fleet & Solid Waste in the Environmental & Engineering Services Area. He has responsibilities for Solid Waste Services; Fleet Services, and Environmental Programs (including energy conservation, active transportation, urban watershed management, and outreach and behaviour change initiatives). Prior to joining London, he worked for 8 years for an environmental consulting firm in Toronto. He is currently on the Board of Directors at the Ontario Waste Management Association and involved in waste management policy development for the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and the Regional Public Works Commissioners of Ontario.

Craig has a thirty year background specializing in senior management and consultant roles with an emphasis on the planning, development and coordination of large scale recycling and waste reduction projects and programs. A Certified Civil & Structural Engineering Technician and a charter member of the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of British Columbia; Past President of the Recycling Council of BC and Past President of the SWANA Pacific Chapter – BC & Yukon. Craig is a recipient of the George and Marjorie New Award from the Royal Roads University Foundation for exceptional aptitude and contribution to the field of sustainable waste management and pollution prevention Currently serving as CPIA’s BC Sustainability Consultant working to improve existing and develop new plastics recycling and recovery programs.

Umberto Arena | Professor of Solid Waste Management & Air Pollution Control Engineering
Umberto has a long experience in the field of waste management, and waste-to-energy in particular. In the 1998 he participated as technical expert in national committee for the public tender of the large-scale waste-to-energy plant (600kt/y) of Naples area, carried out within the context of EU Directives and Regulations. In the 2011-2014 he was one the members of the technical national committee for the assessment of large-scale waste-to-energy plants in the Regione Campania.

Dan Lantz |

Dan has spent his career surrounded by or entrenched in recyclables, now with 28 years in the industry in many facets. Although starting his career working with a municipality, he quickly moved to consulting where he spent 18 years working for various firms. He did extensive consulting work for the newspaper, paper packaging and plastics packaging industries on packaging and stewardship issues getting to understand program costing long before EPR even came to Canada. He did extensive work helping municipalities and industry across Canada and the United States improve the efficiency of their recycling systems and helping save millions of dollars in program operating costs.

Marco Castaldi

Professor, Chemical Engineering, City College of New York, CUNY Director Earth Engineering Center|CCNY Director Earth System Science & Environmental Eng. Mr. Castaldi has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from UCLA and has approximately 90 peer-reviewed research articles, 40 peer-reviewed conference papers, 3 book chapters and 11 patents in the fields of catalysis, combustion and gasification. He has approximately 10 years industry experience prior to his academic career. Recent professional activities and awards include: 2018 Fellow, American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) 2016 Fulbright Fellow, Global Award 2015 National Academies’ Intelligence Science and Technology Expert Group (ISTEG)

Franco Berruti
| Professor & Director, Institute for Chemicals and Fuels from Alternative Resources (ICFAR), University of Western Ontario Professor Berruti graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino (Italy) and achieved a PhD at the University of Waterloo (Canada). He started his career in Canada at the University of Calgary becoming a full professor in 1992 and Associate Dean (Research and Graduate Studies) in 1994. He served as Dean of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan (1996-2000) and at the University of Western Ontario (2000-2008). He is the Founding Director of the Institute for Chemicals and Fuels from Alternative Resources (ICFAR).

Norman Lee |
Director, Waste Management, Region of Peel Norman is responsible for setting and achieving operational, environmental and financial goals of the Waste Management Division.
He provides leadership and strategic direction to the Waste Management Division management team. As well as provides information and advice to the Executive Management Team and Regional Council on Waste Management and other issues in order to facilitate strategic decision making. Norman participates as a key team member on the Public Works departmental management team.
